The Last Performance

and that was it. at least it was professionaly recorded. However, it would had been nice had they not fucked up Ceremony. I blame Martin Hannett (who recorded it). Here is the complete gig, soundboard version. A Means to an End is my favorite Joy Division song, and I still can't decide if this rockin' live version is better than the album version. Both are scorchers.

Here Are the Young Men (Audio)

Various Performances found on this CD. Decent sound, and includes the Apollo gigs in October, Shadowplay on Granada, and some other stuff.

.

Leigh Festival

Joy Division's performance on August 27th, 1979 at the Leigh Festival. Very average recording, and difficult to make out at points. I've uploaded it because it also includes an interview with Ian Curtis on Radio Blackburn.

Rainbow Theater

Joy Division's performance at the Rainbow Theater on November 9th, 1979. Quality on the first night is about a 7-, and quality on the second is about a 5, horrid, so i'm not even going to upload it. There are about 10 Joy Division recordings that aren't even listenable, so i'm not going to upload them, it's a waste of bandwith and time.
.
.

Hempel

Joy Division's performance on November 5th, 1979. Quality rates about a 7+, but I really love this gig. Great version of New Dawn Fades and She's Lost Control, plus you get the soundcheck, which I always love.
.
.

Nashville Rooms (Aug)

Joy Division's performance at the Nashville Rooms on August 13th, 1979. This is supposedly the gig Annik first attended. Also, the bootleg is only 4 songs long as apparantly, the taper was asked to leave. Sad, because the quality is about a 7+. At least he recorded Candidate.
.
.

Joy Division's performance on August 11th, 1979. Quality about a 7-. Not much else to say other than the end of Ice Age is cut, and Joy Division actually played two performances this evening, which was rare for them.
.
.

Imperial Blackpool

Joy Division's performance on July 27th, 1979. There are four recordings of this show, and i'm not sure which one this is. The quality ranges from a 6-7+. Not a bad gig at all. Any show that starts with Dead Souls is cool in my book.
.
.

Roots Club

Their performance on July 11th, 1979 at the Roots Club. JDC rates this about a 6-7 and I agree. It's got some nice qualities (Candidate), but it's not the greatest recording.

Substance

FACT250. Recorded 1977-1980. The great thing about Joy Division is when people state they only had two albums, they are excluding the bands singles, which, as a collection make one of the greatest albums by ANY band.

Love Will Tear Us Apart 12" (Original UK Vinyl Rip)
She's Lost Control 12" (Original UK Vinyl Rip)
Transmission 12" (Original UK Vinyl Rip)
Substance (Original FACT LTD Pressing)
Substance (Heart & Soul Remaster)
Substance (Recycle Series AAC)
Substance (Recycle Series FLAC - incomplete)

Some difference in the uploads. Such as the mixes of She's Lost Control differ from the H&S version, the version that appears on the original FACT disc and the 12" Single. H&S is the only way to get As You Said. I've excluded the Ideal for Living EP tracks as the mastering is really weak on the H&S version. The only way to get the alternate LWTUA is the 12" Single. The Recycle set is remastered from the 1991 Japan box and blows everything else out of the water in terms of mastering. It's also the only way to get mant of the tracks in their correct speed such as Dead Souls, Ice Age, She's Lost Control and a few others. It makes a huge difference on quite a few tracks.

High Wycombe

Joy Division's performance on February 20th, 1980. This is probably the best audience recording available. Duncan's original master was used to see a completely new remaster and then released with the Still Collector's Edition. Includes the full eight song set, plus a six song soundcheck. Excllent show, Hooky has even said this version of LWTUA is a personal favorite.

.

London University

Joy Division's performance on February 8th, 1980. This is Duncan's master cassette, remastered for teh Closer Collector's Edition. They have quite a few technical problems, but this is proably the third best audience recording. The drums really make it.

The Factory, Manchester

Joy Division's performance on July 13th, 1979. Remastered and officially released with the Unknown Pleasures 2007 Collector's Edition. This is my favorite Joy Division show. I never cared for the H&S tracks, but here they went back to the master, and the sound is amazing

Hopefully soon I will have a nice shiny mint vinyl rip. Until then, the CDs will have to do. But as a special bonus. Each upload comes with the live version of 24 Hours, not available since the intial run of pressings in 1981. Why they never released it again so fans could have JD's complete final concert is beyond me, but here it is, ripped from a mint copy of the original vinyl and remastered by the lovely folks at Recycle.

Closer

FACT 25. Released July 18th, 1980, two months after Ian's death. Recorded March 18th-30th at Strawberry Studios. Produced by Martin Hannett.

Original UK Vinyl
Factory Communications LTD (Original Pressing)
Heart & Soul Remaster
2007 Collector's Edition Remaster
Decades (1991 Japanese Remaster)

Bar none, this is the greatest album ever recorded. Of course, the vinyl sounds the best. As a bonus, i've also uploaded Decades from the 1991 Japanese Remaster. It's the only track from Closer that I have sourced from this set (not including the pitch-corrected version of Colony).

Unknown Pleasures

FACT 10, Released June 1979. Recorded April 1-17th, 1979. Produced by Martin Hannett. Joy Divisions first official LP.

Original UK Vinyl (Porky Prime Cut)
Original Factory Communication LTD disc
Heart & Soul Remaster
2007 Collector's Edition Remaster

i've decided to put up all the different versions. The Vinyl sounds the best, with the original Fact. disc coming in second. The rest are just for completists. The main difference between the rips are the drums. On the vinyl, they come across perfect while all CD versions contain a reverbs due to sloppy mastering. I always listen to the vinyl, and it's an excellent rip.

Futurama - Leeds

Joy Division's performance on Spetember 8th, 1979. Not my favorite recording at all, way too distant.
